Day Visit FAQ

  • Do I need a pass to visit Mount Oxley?

Yes. Mount Oxley is located on private property and all visitors require a permit to enter. If you're just visiting for the day, you’ll need to obtain a Day Pass.

  • How do I get a Day Pass?

Visit the Back O’ Bourke Information & Exhibition Centre to purchase a Day Pass. You’ll receive directions and the access code for the locked gate.

  • Is the Day Pass the same as a camping permit?

No. The Day Pass is for day visits only. If you’re staying overnight, please book here

  • Can I visit if it’s been raining?

No – dry weather access only.
Mount Oxley roads are closed during or after wet weather to protect the track. Please check conditions before visiting.

  • What’s the road like to the top?

The road from the bottom to the summit is sealed but narrow, with passing points.

    Drive slowly and cautiously.

Toot your horn and listen for other vehicles before ascending.

If you’re not confident driving on steep or narrow roads, consider travelling with someone experienced.

The road is not suitable for caravans and coaches.

  • What should I bring?

Drinking water (the tank water is for toilets only)

Firewood if you plan to use the designated firepit (April to October only)

    Matches or lighter for BBQs

Rubbish bag – if the bins are full, please take your rubbish with you

A camera – the views are stunning!

  • Are fires allowed?

Yes, but only in the designated fireplace (a tin ringed area near the shed) and only between April and October.
You must bring your own firewood – it can be purchased from SPAR, IGA or Home Hardware in Bourke.

  • Anything else I should know?

Yes – please help us protect this special place:

Leave gates as you find them (open or closed)

    Supervise children at all times

Do not collect or remove rocks

Turn off all taps and solar lights before leaving

Close the toilet doors so wildlife doesn’t get trapped inside
